Servejit Massey

Servejit Massey is a dedicated Director and Secretary on the Montessori Canada Board, as well as the Co-Founder and President/CEO of the Maria Montessori Education Centre (MMEC) of Calgary. With over 30 years of experience in Montessori education, Servejit has built a strong foundation for her career, guided by her deep passion for childhood development and the Montessori method. Her journey in education began in 1992 after completing MACTE-accredited Primary training at the Montessori Institute of America, followed by years of teaching experience in Ontario and Alberta. In 2007, she co-founded MMEC, a thriving institution that now operates two campuses, offering Montessori programs for children from 19 months to Grade 9. MMEC is proud to be the only Montessori school in western Canada with an Erdkinder program and the only CCMA Accredited school in Calgary.

Servejit’s passion for Montessori was deeply influenced by her own motherhood, which encouraged her to explore and understand her pedagogical beliefs. She resonates with the Montessori principle of respecting and honoring each child’s individuality, which has been a driving force in the development of her school. With a growing student population and a solid reputation in the Calgary community, she takes pride in providing an environment that adheres firmly to the Montessori principles.

In addition to her professional work, Servejit finds daily inspiration in her interactions with the children she serves. She values the lasting impact that simple acts of warmth and kindness can have on a child’s development. Outside of her career, Servejit enjoys yoga, reading, weight training, and music. A proud mother of three daughters who all attended Montessori schools, she lives by the words of Maria Montessori, “The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” If Servejit were to choose a Montessori material that reflects her personality, it would be the Checker Board because it’s complex yet visually simple and appealing, just like her approach to education.
