Laura McDonald

Laura McDonald serves as a Board Member for Montessori Canada and is the Head of School at Fredericton Montessori Academy. With over a decade of experience in both public and Montessori education, Laura is deeply committed to creating child-centered learning environments that nurture independent thinkers. Holding a BEd, a Master’s in Guidance, and a certificate in Lower Elementary Montessori training through NAMC, she continues to expand her expertise with an 18-month MACTE Accredited Montessori Leadership Course through The Center for Guided Montessori Studies.

Laura’s Montessori journey began when her eldest son’s innate love of learning prompted her to seek a more personalized educational experience. Recognizing the power of Montessori’s hands-on approach and its focus on empowering children, she was inspired to open Fredericton Montessori Academy. Laura is drawn to the profound joy of seeing children excited to come to school, and she is passionate about meeting students where they are academically and emotionally to help them grow. The most fulfilling part of her work is watching the transformation in students as they develop a love for learning and a sense of confidence. She recalls hearing from parents whose children have transitioned into the school, often saying, “You have given us our child back,” which reinforces the impact of Montessori education.

As a firm believer in the importance of community, Laura values the authentic connections between students, teachers, and families that make Fredericton Montessori Academy a place of growth and inspiration. Her dedication to serving her community and embracing the whole family model is central to her leadership. She finds inspiration in the commitment and care her guides show to the children and strives to inspire others in Atlantic Canada to explore and embrace Montessori education. Laura’s favourite quote, “Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels love,” by Roy T. Bennett, encapsulates her approach to education and leadership, emphasizing the importance of love, kindness, and creating positive impacts in the lives of others.
