Jodi Sproule
Jodi Sproule is the Head of School at Nelephant Montessori School in St. Catharines, ON, and a dedicated member of the Montessori Canada Board of Directors. She brings a wealth of experience in early childhood education, having completed her ECE and Montessori Casa training at Sheridan College, where she was awarded the Governor General’s Award for graduating with the highest marks in 2005. Jodi’s journey in Montessori education began in her youth when she helped in her mother’s classroom at Nelephant. After years of teaching as a Casa Directress and later serving as Academic Supervisor, she became Head of School in 2021.
Jodi’s commitment to Montessori is rooted in its respect for children as capable and independent learners. She believes deeply in fostering self-discipline, curiosity, and a love of learning, and has seen firsthand the profound impact of these principles. One of her most cherished memories is when a former student wrote about her lasting influence during a school assignment years after graduating her class, underscoring the long-term effect of Montessori education. Jodi’s favourite quote, “Students work hardest for teachers they like and respect. When I’m asked ‘How do I get the students to like and respect me?’ my immediate response is, ‘Like and respect them first.” serves as a guiding principle in her work.
She continues to inspire educators and young learners alike, believing strongly in the transformative power of Montessori methods. During the chaos of set-up week before children start back to school, Jodi finds peace in working with the Trinomial Cube, a Montessori material that has been a calming touchstone throughout her career, reminding her of the importance of hands-on learning and reflection.
