Montessori Canada Community
Code of Ethics

All schools, organizations and individuals enrolled in the Montessori Canada Community shall support and promote Montessori Canada, its mission, vision, goals, and standards and:

  • Conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner, reflecting a mutual respect and support for others in the Montessori Canada Community.
  • Promote the high standards of program quality as articulated by Montessori Canada best practices and criteria.
  • Promote equity and justice by creating a community that fosters respect, understanding, and appreciation of differences, and affirms the dignity of each individual.
  • Shall represent their Montessori Canada enrollment status with clarity and honesty.
  • Refrain from knowingly misrepresenting Montessori Canada policies and standards.
  • Refrain from disparaging Montessori Canada, other Montessori or non-Montessori schools, Montessori teacher training centres and/or other Montessori organizations.
  • Engage as partners in understanding and preserving Montessori philosophy.

All schools and/or organizations enrolled in the Montessori Canada Community shall also:

  • Publicly display their current Montessori Canada Accreditation Certificate as provided by Montessori Canada (applies to Montessori Canada Accredited Member schools only).
  • Encourage a successful transition for parents and their children entering and leaving their Montessori school years.
  • Refrain from soliciting applications from students at other Montessori Canada enrolled schools, save by the usual public announcements and advertising.
  • Refrain from soliciting any staff member of another enrolled school other than by the usual public advertising practices.
  • Refrain from knowingly entering into a staff contract whose terms conflict with an existing one with another school.
  • Respect the rights of all staff of Montessori Canada, Montessori Canada enrolled schools and Teacher Training Institutes as outlined by the appropriate Provincial, Territorial and/or Federal employment laws. All administration and staff must be free of a criminal record.

As a Montessori Canada enrolled school, Teacher Training Institute or individual, we/I agree to abide by the Code of Ethics.

If a breach of the ethical considerations outlined in the Montessori Canada Code of Ethics is determined by the Montessori Canada Board of Directors, the offending school, organization or individual will be issued a written reprimand. Subsequent offences may result in withdrawal of Montessori Canada enrollment.
